If you have become a connoisseur of my running routes over the past weeks, you may note that I planned for this run to be something different than it was. I planned for it to be a 5.5-mile recovery run with the new kicks (Nike Zoom Pegasus 32). I ended up with half that.
I was a little nervous about getting back out on the pavement again. I mean, my last run left me pretty wiped. But after 18 miles, what's a 5.5.-mile run? Nothing, right? So after I spent all morning dallying about, I shoved myself out the door to just get it done.
Turns out my body had other plans for this run. I was going 11 minutes per mile, not strenuous, but fast for me. But by 2.29 miles, I was ready to vomit and was seeing sparks in my vision. So... I decided to stop. I called Noah, and he came to get me. I thought for a few minutes about feeling bad about my weakness of mind/body/heart, whatever. And then I decided I'm not gonna do that to myself. I'm so close to my goal. And I can do the 5.5-mile run tomorrow. I marked this abbreviated one down for a benchmark run, and I'm moving on.
For the record, the new Nikes are awesome and I love them! But big surprise. My last two pairs of trainers have been Nike Pegasus 30 and 31. It's a good shoe for me. I don't think I need to mess around trying to find something cheaper that "works." These ones suit me just fine.
